La Petite Mort, Granite Belt

The experiment wines of Bent Road Winery in the Granite Belt (QLD). The focus at La Petite Mort is on Rhone varietals due to the similarities to the two regions. Surprisingly the Granite Belt is one of the cooler regions in Australia with elevations exceeding 1000 meters and significant snowfalls not uncommon.

The property was purchased in 2000 and planted out not long after. Wines are made from Estate grown fruit and neighboring vineyards managed under organic principles. Wine-making mainstays at La Petite Mort include Amphora aging of skin contact in both reds and wines, sometimes reaching up to 200 days.
